If you’ve been sitting on a stack of American Airlines AAdvantage miles, there’s some genuinely good news: you can finally use them to book flights on Oman Air directly through aa.com. Oman Air officially joined the oneworld alliance back in mid-2025, but for whatever reason, it took over a year for American to actually connect the dots on their website and let members redeem miles for their flights. Now that the integration is live, it opens up a fantastic alternative for getting around the Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
Why This Is Such a Big Deal
If you’ve tried booking award flights through the Middle East recently, you know the struggle. Qatar Airways and Etihad have both gotten increasingly stingy with how many award seats they release to partner programs. Oman Air filling that gap gives AAdvantage members a reliable backup plan with surprisingly good award seat availability.
The redemption rates on aa.com are also really reasonable:
- Muscat to Europe: ~42,500 miles in Business Class
- Muscat to Southeast Asia: ~40,000 miles in Business Class
Considering the quality of the service, those numbers are a steal.
What the Flight Experience Is Actually Like
Oman Air is a smaller, boutique carrier based out of Muscat, and when you get them on the right plane, the experience is top-notch.
If you’re flying long-haul, you’ll likely be on one of their Boeing 787 Dreamliners. These feature Apex Suites in Business Class. Even though the cabin is arranged in a 2-2-2 setup, the layout is staggered so that every single seat gets direct aisle access, tons of personal space, and complete privacy. Pair that with great food, attentive service, and their stunning flagship lounge in Muscat, and it easily rivals the bigger regional carriers.
The One Caveat to Watch Out For
Before you slam the book button, double-check the aircraft operating your flight.
Over the last few years, Oman Air has downsized its widebody fleet and started using Boeing 737 narrowbodies on longer routes where you’d normally expect a twin-aisle jet. The 737s are equipped with standard recliner seats in Business Class, perfectly fine for a two-hour regional hop, but pretty brutal if you end up stuck on one for a six-hour flight from Europe.
This is easily one of the best new uses of American miles we’ve seen in a while. Just make sure your long-haul legs are on a 787 so you get the full lie-flat experience, and you’ll be set for a fantastic trip.
