Riyadh Air’s Hafawa Lounge Sets a New Standard for Luxury Travel

Hafawa Lounge is at King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh has a remarkably high bar for an airline ground experience, especially considering Riyadh Air made known it right as commercial operations began. Spanning nearly 2,000 square meters (around 21,500 square feet) with seating for 370 guests, the space feels more like a high-end luxury resort than a typical airport waiting area. Designed by the renowned studio Yabu Pushelberg, the interior draws inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s natural desert landscapes, using warm limestone, oak, bronze details, and textured plaster to create a serene, residential feel.

Design and Ambiance

Instead of taking the standard open-plan approach, the lounge is broken up into a series of interconnected, distinct “rooms” suited to whatever mood you’re in. There’s “The Study” and “The Parlor” for quiet work or reading, social spaces along the runway windows, and dedicated private sleeping pods. The lighting even subtly shifts throughout the day using a circadian system that mirrors the natural warm-to-cool transitions of desert sunlight.

Food and Drink

The dining setup rivals some of the best flagship lounges in the world:

  • À la Carte Dining: A dedicated dining room where you can order a full three-course meal off a menu, perfect for eating on the ground so you can sleep straight through a late-night flight.
  • The Buffet: Features a mix of individually plated cold options alongside high-quality hot dishes.
  • Barista Café: A dedicated coffee spot serving artisanal drinks, pastries, and traditional Saudi coffee with fresh dates upon arrival.
  • Beverage Program: The lounge operates as a dry facility (no alcohol), focusing instead on a creative lineup of handcrafted mocktails—like their signature “Lavender Haze”—alongside local teas and Kayanee smoothies.

Rest and Amenities

If you have a long layover, the lounge offers self-contained private quiet rooms with doors, massage chairs in dedicated relaxation nooks, and well-appointed private shower suites to freshen up before your flight.

Overall, the Hafawa Lounge makes a strong statement for Riyadh Air out of the gate, blending thoughtful tech integration with genuine warmth and high-end design.
